Teplá dolina is a beautiful forested valley in the Veľká Fatra mountains of Slovakia, hiding a scenic waterfall, rocky outcrops and even a few caves along its stream. If you are after a peaceful hike with wild nature and the sound of rushing water, this valley delivers exactly that.
The valley opens at around 640 m above sea level and climbs all the way to Severné Rakytovské sedlo (approx. 1405 m), offering a satisfying ascent with an impressive elevation gain. The left slopes are shaped by the ridge of Rakytov (1567 m) and the right by the ridge of Tanečnica (1462 m). Throughout the walk, the Teplý stream accompanies you, forming picturesque waterfalls — the largest being Dolný vodopád Teplého potoka, which together with its surroundings is protected as the Prielom Teplého potoka nature reserve. Keep an eye on the valley slopes near the reserve — there are rocky walls hiding several small caves, a memorable surprise on the trail. In summer the dense forest provides welcome shade, in autumn the colours are stunning, and in winter the valley becomes a quiet snowy retreat.
How to get thereAt the valley floor you will find a small meadow with a feeding rack for wildlife — a charming reminder that in Teplá dolina, nature still very much has the upper hand.
