Borišov (1510 m a.s.l.) is the highest peak of the Turiec branch of the Veľká Fatra range in Slovakia — and one of the most rewarding summits in the entire mountain group. Its open, tree-free summit dome rewards hikers with sweeping panoramic views that feel far grander than the modest trail effort required. A perfect destination for anyone who loves wide horizons without a full-day expedition.

The summit meadows come alive with the violet blooms of Crocus scepusiensis in early spring, followed in summer by gentians, alpine thistle and roseroot clinging to the rocky turf. Isolated groups of trees near the top hint that forest once reached all the way here — higher than anywhere else in Veľká Fatra. The northern slopes plunge dramatically toward the Belianska valley, while the southwestern flanks drop into the Necpalská valley. In winter, the southern slope is considered one of the most avalanche-prone spots in the entire range, so off-season visits demand serious caution.

• Chata pod Borišovom, located on the ridge about 600 m east of the summit, is the only proper mountain hut in the whole of Veľká Fatra — with 20 regular sleeping places, expandable to 30–40 guests if needed.
• The peak lies within Veľká Fatra National Park.
• The southern slope of Borišov is one of the highest avalanche-risk areas in Veľká Fatra — exercise extreme caution in winter and early spring.

The hut below the summit has a fascinating backstory — construction began in 1937 but wasn't completed until 1942 due to the difficulty of transporting materials to this remote ridge. During the Slovak National Uprising it was held by partisan units and narrowly escaped destruction by German forces.
