Ploská (1532 m a.s.l.) is one of the highest peaks in the Veľká Fatra range in Slovakia — and one of the most distinctive. Instead of a sharp rocky summit, you arrive at a vast, almost flat plateau carpeted with colorful alpine meadows. Its very name means 'flat' in Slovak, and it could not be more fitting.

The broad summit plateau is a geological curiosity: soft Lower Cretaceous marlite schists have weathered into a gently rounded, nearly level surface — a remnant of an ancient planation surface. In summer the meadows burst with European globeflower, Siberian garlic and two-leaved squill. Spring brings carpets of crocuses to the northern slopes. The western flanks are steep and grassy, sending large avalanches down into the Hornoborišovská valley every winter — a warning sign is posted along the trail. As a key ridge junction, Ploská connects the main Veľká Fatra ridge with the lateral ridge leading to Borišov. The panoramic views focus mostly on distant horizons, as the gentle curves of the mountain hide the surrounding valleys.

• An avalanche warning sign is posted along the trail toward Chata pod Borišovom — exercise caution on the western slopes in winter.
• Near the trail junction at the summit stands the grave of a participant in the Slovak National Uprising of 1944.

The beech forest forms the natural treeline here, giving way to man-made pastoral meadows above — a landscape shaped over centuries by mountain shepherds, and still just as beautiful today.
