Malý Zvolen (1,372 m a.s.l.) is a rewarding summit in the Zvolen massif of the Veľká Fatra range in Slovakia — a peak where traditional shepherding culture and sweeping mountain panoramas come together in one unforgettable experience. Open grassy slopes and wide skies make it a standout destination in the Western Carpathians.

The northeast face of the summit and the ridge connecting it to the neighbouring peak Zvolen are covered with extensive pastoral meadows that are still actively used for sheep grazing. This living tradition of mountain farming is exactly what keeps the views so open and spectacular. Only the western flank is partially screened by forest reaching almost to the top. On a clear day the panorama stretches to the Prašivá and Salatín massifs, the Chočské vrchy hills, the High Tatras, the Starohorské vrchy, Nová hoľa with its gondola and chairlift station, Rakytov, and many other Veľká Fatra summits. Summer brings wildflowers and the sound of sheep bells; autumn turns the meadows golden — both seasons are spectacular here.

• Liptovské Revúce (Nižná Revúca) — marked trail via Končitá to Malý Zvolen, continuing to Zvolen. Ascent approx. 2 hrs 45 min, descent approx. 2 hrs. Difficulty: moderate.

• The summit lies within the buffer zone of the Low Tatras National Park — observe all park regulations during your visit.
• The meadows are actively grazed — expect to encounter sheep and livestock guardian dogs on the upper slopes.

Worth knowing: the Zvolen massif was historically classified as part of the Low Tatras, before being reassigned to the Veľká Fatra — giving Malý Zvolen an identity that bridges two great Slovak mountain ranges.
