Tanečnica (1,462 m a.s.l.) is one of those intriguing peaks in Slovakia's Veľká Fatra range that draws you in precisely because it sits just beyond the beaten path. The summit itself is officially off-limits to tourists, but the ridges and valleys surrounding it reward curious hikers with genuine mountain wilderness.

Positioned along the Liptov branch of the main Veľká Fatra ridge, between Rakytov (1,567 m) to the south and Skalná Alpa (1,463 m) to the north, the mountain shapes the landscape in every direction. Short spurs drop westward into the Rakytov valley, while a much longer ridge runs between Teplá dolina and the Skalné valley, descending via the Skalné summit (1,145 m) down to the Revúca valley. The western and northern flanks fall within the National Nature Reserve of Skalná Alpa, giving the area a protected, raw atmosphere. Seasons transform the mountain markedly — lush meadows in spring, deep green forests in summer, and a spectacular palette of colours come autumn.

• The closest marked trail is the green-blazed route passing between Severné Rakytovské sedlo and the Močidla junction — this is the nearest access point, though the summit itself has no official trail leading to it.

• The summit of Tanečnica is not accessible to tourists — no marked trail leads to the top.
