If you love wildflower meadows bursting with rare orchids, this small nature reserve near the village of Pila will surprise you with its richness. It is a place where, on a modest patch of land, you can find some of the rarest plants in the whole of the Czech Republic — species known from only a handful of locations nationwide.

The landscape here is made up of flower-rich meadows and pastures resting on the granite bedrock of the Karlovy Vary pluton. In summer, especially in June and July, the meadows burst into color — from the purple of orchids to the yellow of gentians. It's a peaceful spot, far from the crowds, perfect for botany lovers and nature photographers. In autumn the grasses turn golden, while spring brings the first blooms of the season.

• Protected since 2004, managed by the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area administration

• Protected reptiles also live here, including the common European adder and viviparous lizard

This is one of only two places in the entire Slavkovský les where the dense-flowered fragrant orchid can be found — a true rarity for wildflower enthusiasts.
