Mědník (910 m a.s.l.) is one of the most distinctive summits in the Ore Mountains — a peak with nearly a thousand years of mining history, striking panoramic views, and a fascinating mix of geology, heritage and nature. If you are looking for a hike that offers more than just a walk in the woods, this is the place.

The hill owes its prominent shape to a hard skarn core that resisted erosion long after the surrounding schists were worn away. The result is a landmark visible from the Bohemian lowlands far to the south. On a clear day the summit rewards you with views stretching west to Klínovec and the German Fichtelberg, north to the Přísečnice reservoir and Velký Špičák, and south across the Ohře valley towards the Doupov Hills. In summer the slopes are lush and quiet; in autumn the forests glow with colour; in winter Mědník stands out as a snow-capped beacon above the industrial plains.

• Měděnec village (southern foot of the hill) — shortest approach, easy to moderate, well-marked KČT trails.
• Klášterec nad Ohří — starting point of the popular annual 'Easter Egg Ascent of Mědník' organised by the Czech Hikers Club; moderate difficulty, approximately 2–3 hours.

• Since 2023 the summit area is protected as the 'Mědník' natural monument.
• The 'Země zaslíbená' (Promised Land) mine adit near the southern foot is open to the public and listed as a cultural heritage site since 2013.
• The broader Ore Mountains mining landscape, including Mědník's historic adits, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2019.
• A chapel dedicated to the Immaculate Conception stands on the summit, built in 1674 by Duke Julius Francis of Saxe-Lauenburg; a second chapel, the Sacred Heart, stands on the south-western slope (built 1935).

Mining at the foot of Mědník continued — with breaks — all the way until 1992, making this one of the few Central European peaks where you can still feel the living weight of almost six centuries of underground work.
