Blatenský vrch (1,043 m a.s.l.) is one of the most rewarding summits in the Ore Mountains, topped by a historic lookout tower dating back to 1913. Combine sweeping views, a fascinating backstory and easy access from nearby Horní Blatná, and you have a brilliant day out in the Czech highlands.

Sitting roughly 1.5 km northeast of Horní Blatná in the Karlovy Vary Region, the peak rises above a landscape of open moorland and spruce forest typical of the Ore Mountains. The western slopes hide a protected natural monument called Vlčí jámy, while the historic Blatenský water channel winds along the western and northern flanks. In summer the area is pleasantly cool and green; in winter it transforms into a snow-covered world that would have delighted the Winter Sports Club whose members commissioned the tower in the first place.

• From the road between Horní Blatná and Boží Dar — red trail, approx. 700 m northwest from the 'Pod Blatenským vrchem' junction, difficulty: easy.
• From the northern part of Horní Blatná — educational trail via Vlčí jámy, approx. 1 km, difficulty: easy.
• From Potůčky — yellow trail (also followed by blue cycling route No. 2001), approx. 6 km with over 400 m of elevation gain, difficulty: moderate.

• The lookout tower at the summit is open to visitors — check current opening hours before your trip.
• A small hut maintained by volunteer nature conservationists is located near the tower.
• A TV relay transmitter also stands on the summit.

When the tower was inaugurated on 5 July 1913, it was ceremonially named after Austrian Archduchess Zita — a royal dedication that adds a touch of imperial history to this quiet Bohemian hilltop.
