The Naafkopf, also known as Schneetälispitz, rises to 2571 m and holds a rare distinction: its summit marker sits exactly on the tripoint where Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein meet. Few peaks in the Alps let you stand on three national borders at once.

Seen from the east, the Naafkopf resembles a flat pyramid, but from every other direction it reveals a rugged, jagged character. This contrast, combined with its easy accessibility, makes it a popular goal for both hikers and climbers. As the eastern endpoint of the Naafkopf-Falknis chain, it sends distinct ridges toward the Älpelekopf, the Schesaplana and the Falknis, all tracing the state borders. To the north stretches the open Naaftal valley, while the eastern flank drops toward the plateau-like Barthümelalpe and its steep Rote Wand cliff.

How to reach the summit

• Pfälzerhütte hut - standard route, about 1 hour, easy
• Alpe Ijes (south) - about 2.5 hours, UIAA grade I
• West ridge - climbing route established in 1924, UIAA II-IV (technically A0), for experienced climbers

Good to know

• The Liechtensteiner Weg, partly secured with cables, crosses the eastern flank at around 2200 m, linking the Pfälzerhütte with the Salarueljoch
• The summit lies exactly on the tripoint of Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein
