Dolné Diery is a captivating gorge tucked into the Krivánska Malá Fatra mountains of Slovakia, forming part of the celebrated Jánošíkove diery canyon system. Two waterfalls, bizarre rock formations and a unique microclimate make this one of the most rewarding short hikes in the region.

The gorge has a character all of its own. In spring, the stream rushes loudly through the narrow rocky corridor, feeding two waterfalls on the Dierový potok creek — one at 1 m and another at an impressive 3.5 m. Summer brings cool shade between the moss-covered walls, while winter transforms the place into a glittering ice landscape. The specific microclimate shelters a surprising variety of rare plant and animal species that thrive among the unusual rock formations.
