Veľký Rozsutec (1,610 m a.s.l.) is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful peaks in Slovakia — a rugged, dolomite giant that towers over the northern edge of the Malá Fatra range and rewards every hiker with spectacular panoramic views. It is so iconic that its silhouette appears in the official logo of Malá Fatra National Park.

The landscape here is dramatic in every season: jagged rock faces, natural rock cities sculpted by erosion, and open alpine meadows that burst into colour in summer. The western wall alone rises nearly 160 metres. From the summit, the views are breathtaking in almost every direction — the High Tatras, Low Tatras, Veľká Fatra, the Orava and Kysuce Beskids, and on a clear day even the distant Moravian-Silesian Beskids. The area around the peak is among the richest botanical sites in Slovakia, home to several Slovak endemic plant species.

• From Štefanová via Medziholie — yellow trail to the saddle, then red, moderate to demanding
• From Terchová via Jánošíkove diery gorge and Medzirozsutce saddle — blue trail, demanding
• From Párnica via Medziholie saddle — green trail, moderate

• The ridge section Medziholie – Veľký Rozsutec – Medzirozsutce is closed seasonally from 1 March to 15 June for nature protection.
• The entire massif lies within Malá Fatra National Park and the NPR Rozsutec nature reserve.
• The international long-distance trail E3 passes through this area.
• The former mountain hut at Medziholie saddle burned down in January 1985 and was never rebuilt — no refreshments are available at or near the summit.

Local legend claims that somewhere near the summit lies the treasure of the legendary outlaw Jánosík — and while no gold has ever been found, the views from the top are a treasure in themselves.
