Osnica (1,363 m a.s.l.) is a rewarding summit in the north-eastern part of Malá Fatra, sitting about 9 km west of Dolný Kubín. Its open, meadow-covered top and sweeping views over the Orava region make it a favourite for hikers who want big scenery without tackling the most demanding ridges.
The summit area is largely open grassland with patches of forest, giving unobstructed views to the south and east. On a clear day you can spot the Oravská Magura, the Chočské vrchy hills, the northern part of Veľká Fatra, and — with ideal conditions — the peaks of the Kysuce and Orava Beskids, the Western and Low Tatras, and Vtáčnik. To the north-west, the higher summits of the main ridge — Veľký Rozsutec (1,610 m) and Stoh (1,607 m) — frame the horizon beautifully. The whole massif lies within the Malá Fatra National Park, keeping the landscape wonderfully unspoiled across all seasons.
How to reach the summitOsnica is a wonderful off-the-beaten-path alternative to the busier summits of Malá Fatra, offering genuine Orava highland atmosphere and a sense of peaceful solitude.
