Malý Rozsutec (1,344 m a.s.l.) is one of the most iconic peaks in Slovakia's Malá Fatra mountains — its jagged limestone battlements and dramatic rocky silhouette, shared with neighbouring Veľký Rozsutec, make it instantly recognisable from miles around. Expect adventure: iron chains, ladders, narrow gorges and sweeping views all packed into a single day out.

The summit sits on the northern edge of the Krivánska Fatra range, and its exposed position rewards you with a wide panorama stretching to the High Tatras, the Chočské Hills, and the Orava, Kysuce and Moravian-Silesian Beskids. The rocky terrain is at its most dramatic in autumn, when the forest blazes with colour against pale limestone cliffs. Spring brings a remarkable carpet of rare lime-loving plants — the area is considered one of Slovakia's richest botanical sites.

• The summit lies within the Rozsutec National Nature Reserve (842 ha), part of Malá Fatra National Park — stay on marked trails and respect nature protection rules.
• The gorge routes through Dolné and Horné diery follow a stream bed and may be closed or dangerous during high water levels.
• The chain-assisted eastern face requires confidence on rocky terrain — the fixed chains assist but do not replace experience.

The limestone walls of Malý Rozsutec harbour some of Slovakia's rarest alpine flora — as special for botanists as it is for peak-baggers.
