Boboty is one of those rewarding off-the-beaten-path summits in the Malá Fatra mountains of Slovakia — a compact ridge that quietly closes off the northern end of the beautiful Vrátna Valley. Less famous than its neighbour Veľký Rozsutec, it more than makes up for it with wild forests, dramatic dolomite rock formations and a lovely sense of solitude.

The ridge stretches roughly 2.5 km from west to east, with steep slopes dropping away on both the north and south sides. Almost the entire massif is wrapped in beech-fir forest with a generous mix of spruce, giving it a lush, green feel in spring and a spectacular golden glow in autumn. Rocky outcrops along the ridge open up to great views of the Vrátna Valley with Veľký Rozsutec, Stoh and Veľký Kriváň. On the ascent from Tiesňavy you can also enjoy impressive views of the rock formations on the neighbouring Sokolie massif.

• Almost the entire massif lies within Malá Fatra National Park.
• The upper parts of the massif fall within the Tiesňavy Nature Reserve, established in 1967.
• Hotel 'Boboty' at the southern foot of the massif offers accommodation and a restaurant — a convenient base.
• Mountain Rescue Service (Horská Služba) for the Malá Fatra area is based near the Vratná – Nový Dvor bus stop.
• Two small ski areas with short lifts operate on the clearings at both the northern and southern foot of Boboty.

Hidden beneath the ridge at 1070 m a.s.l. is the Jaskyňa v Ďurkových skalách — a modest 10-metre cave carved by centuries of erosion through the ancient Choč dolomites that form the backbone of this massif.
