The Weißenstein Castle Ruins crown a 758-metre quartz outcrop known as the Pfahl, rising above the Weißenstein district of Regen in the Bavarian Forest. This atmospheric rock castle blends medieval history with local legend, making it a rewarding stop for hikers and history lovers alike.

The elongated ruin sits on a rocky terrace, separate from the old farm buildings, with a square residential tower and sections of wall still standing. The surrounding Pfahl nature reserve is thick with sycamore, elder, birch and ash trees, giving the site a wilder, greener feel than the surrounding rock ridge. In summer the site is lush and inviting, while in autumn and winter the weathered stones and quartz cliffs take on a moodier, almost fairy-tale character.
