The Einödriegel is the highest summit of the Vorderer Bayerischer Wald (Front Bavarian Forest) and of the whole Deggendorf district, rising to 1121 m above sea level. A striking summit cross with rest benches marks the top, rewarding hikers with fine views to the west and northeast.

Part of the same ridge as the Geißkopf, Dreitannenriegel and Breitenauriegel near Bischofsmais, the Einödriegel offers a classic Bavarian Forest atmosphere — quiet wooded slopes, gentle terrain, and open views at the summit. In winter, a ski lift runs up from Unterbreitenau as part of the Geißkopf ski area, while in summer the peak is a peaceful hiking destination reached via a signposted trail. Interestingly, the true highest point of the mountain isn't at the cross at all, but nearly 100 metres south of it, marked by a small rock outcrop right beside the trail — densely hemmed in by trees and with no view whatsoever.

Fun fact: older geographical works, including the 1982 Brockhaus encyclopedia, classified the Einödriegel as the highest peak of the entire Bavarian Forest, when the term is understood in its broader sense including the Bohemian Forest.
