Eschenberg is a peaceful, mostly forested summit tucked deep in the Bavarian Forest, perfect for hikers who prefer solitude over crowds. It's the highest point of a rarely-visited ridge stretching between the villages of Kirchdorf im Wald, Rinchnach, Frauenau and Klingenbrunn.

The surrounding landscape is classic Bavarian Forest — dense coniferous woods that blanket the slopes in snow during winter and offer cool, shaded trails in summer. The summit itself is heavily wooded, so don't expect sweeping panoramas — this is a hike for those who enjoy the forest atmosphere rather than viewpoints. On the southern flank you'll find the striking Habichtstein rock formation (863 m), a worthwhile detour. Nearby peaks such as Wagensonnriegel, Gsengetstein and Hessenstein make it easy to extend your day into a longer ridge tour.
