Perched dramatically on a basalt cone above the village that shares its name, the ruined castle of Andělská Hora is one of the most striking landmarks in western Bohemia. Just 8.5 km southeast of Karlovy Vary, it offers a rewarding half-day trip combining medieval history with sweeping countryside views.

The atmosphere here is genuinely special — the jagged silhouette of the ruins crowns the volcanic hill like something from a fairy tale. In spring and summer the forested slopes are lush and green, while autumn transforms the surroundings into a canvas of amber and red. The rocky ridge on which the castle sits means the final approach requires a little care underfoot, but the effort is well worth it. From the top, the views across the hills and valleys of the Karlovy Vary region are simply excellent.
