Spirkenwälder Innergamp is a small but remarkable protected area in the Rätikon range, where ancient mountain pine (Spirke) forests have survived on nutrient-poor limestone and gypsum ground. This is a place for those seeking wilderness and quiet rather than crowds.

The landscape is rugged high-alpine terrain surrounded by the peaks of the Rätikon, where wind-twisted mountain pines create a unique atmosphere. In summer, the area reveals a sparse but distinctive alpine flora, while in autumn and winter the harshness of the terrain becomes even more apparent. It is a rarely visited area with no public road access, making it ideal for lovers of genuine wild nature.

How to get there

• Start from Nenzing towards Galinalpe or Vorderer Gampalpe — demanding terrain, no marked road access
• Alternatively via the area around Innergampalpe, located to the south of the protected area
