The Ropice Nature Reserve is one of the most precious wild corners of the north-eastern Moravian-Silesian Beskids — a place where ancient beech forests grow undisturbed and rare birds call from hollow trees. Centred around the summit of Ropice (1082 m), the reserve also extends across the neighbouring peaks of Velký Lipový and Příslop, forming a continuous refuge for nature in its most authentic form.

Walking through Ropice feels like stepping into a forest that has been left entirely to its own devices. The landscape is shaped by near-natural beech woodland, mixed stands of naturally occurring spruce, rocky cliff faces and debris-covered slopes. The northern flank of Ropice bears the marks of a dramatic ancient rock avalanche — the resulting large-scale slope deformations are a striking geomorphological feature worth seeking out. In spring the forest hums with birdsong, in summer it offers welcome cool shade, and in autumn the beeches blaze with colour.

• The reserve consists of two separate sections — the larger covers Ropice summit and adjacent ridges, the smaller lies on the south-western slopes of Ropička (918 m).

Ropice owes its protected status largely to its exceptional birdlife — rare and endangered species thrive among the hollow old-growth trees, making this a quiet paradise for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike.
