Gaderská Valley is widely considered the most beautiful valley in the Veľká Fatra mountains — and one of the finest in all of Slovakia. Carved deep into Mesozoic limestone and dolomite, it rewards visitors with dramatic rocky slopes, ancient beech forests and the clear waters of the Gaderský stream. If you are looking for a single hike that captures the wild heart of the Western Carpathians, this is it.

Together with its upper continuation, Dedošová Valley, the gorge stretches for about 18 km and lies entirely within Veľká Fatra National Park. The valley sides are steep and furrowed with rocky ridges and gullies. Spring brings rare lime-loving wildflowers; autumn fills the valley with the roar of rutting red deer; winter transforms the cliffs into a stark, monumental scene. In the upper reaches you may spot chamois — descendants of a group of around 20 individuals introduced from the Czech Republic between 1956 and 1960.

• Blatnica village (paid car park at the valley entrance) — yellow-marked trail running the full length of the valley to Kráľova studňa below the main ridge; moderate to demanding in the upper section
• Side trails from the lower valley lead to the summits of Tlstá and Ostrá, and a path branches off to the ruins of Blatnica Castle
• From upper Dedošová Valley — green-marked trail leads directly to Ostredok (1596 m), the highest peak of Veľká Fatra

• The entire valley is within Veľká Fatra National Park — nature protection rules apply throughout
• Paid car park and electric bicycle rental available at the valley entrance near Blatnica
• Side valleys (Vlkanová, Konský dol and others) are closed to tourists
• Brown bear, wolf and lynx are all present — stay alert and follow local guidelines

Look out for the valley's remarkable yew population of around 1,000 trees, and the relic Scots pine stands on the rocky crags — among the richest such communities in all of Slovakia.
