Lysec (1,381 m a.s.l.) is one of the most striking peaks in the central part of the Veľká Fatra mountain range — a bold, freestanding summit that rewards hikers with sweeping views across a vast arc of the Slovak Carpathians. Situated around 10 km southeast of Martin, the peak rises between the Belianska and Hornojasenska valleys. Its southern ridge is open and grassy, while the northern slopes are cloaked in dense forest — a contrast that gives the mountain a different character in every season. In summer the summit meadows are lush and flower-filled; in autumn the valleys below burst with colour; in winter a peaceful blanket of snow transforms the whole landscape. The views from the top are exceptional: alongside the peaks of Veľká Fatra and the Turiec Basin, you can see the entire Malá Fatra range and parts of the Žiar hills. On a clear day the Low and High Tatras, Vtáčnik, the Strážov Hills, Veľký Choč, and even Lysá hora across the Strečno Pass all come into view.

The name 'Lysec' comes from the Slovak word for 'bald' or 'bare' — a fitting description for the open, meadow-covered summit that stands out unmistakably in the Turiec Basin skyline.
