Kečka (1,489 m) is a quiet, forested peak in the Western Tatras that rarely sees a crowd - which is exactly its charm. It rises above the village of Pribylina, deep in the Liptov Tatras, away from the busiest trails.

The summit is covered by dense forest, so there's no view from the very top, making this a spot best appreciated by those who value solitude and untouched woodland over panoramas. From well-chosen spots nearby, however, you can enjoy views of the surrounding Western Tatras peaks, the Podtatranská kotlina basin, the Low Tatras, and the Kozie chrbty ridge. Kečka marks the end of a ridge running from Bystrá through Nižná Bystrá and Ježová, with the Račkova and Úzka valleys flanking its slopes, feeding streams into the Belá river.

How to reach the summit

• No marked trail leads directly to the summit
• A marked trail runs along the western foot of the mountain through the Úzka and Račkova valleys to Bystré sedlo saddle
• The red-marked Tatranská magistrála trail passes along the southern foot of the mountain

Practical information

• The peak lies within Tatra National Park
• Since there is no marked path to the top, reaching the summit requires off-trail hiking

Kečka remains one of those Tatra corners largely untouched by tourism - a great pick for hikers who enjoy quiet forest walks away from the main routes.
