Nižná Bystrá (2,162 m a.s.l.) is a rewarding off-trail summit in the Western Tatras of Slovakia — no marked path leads here, but those willing to venture beyond the waymarked routes are treated to a spectacular 360-degree panorama and genuine mountain solitude. It's a peak for those who love their adventures a little wilder.

The summit sits along the Grúň ridge, branching south-westward from Bystrá (2,248 m) towards Ježová and Kečka. Its northern slopes drop into Gáborová Valley, the south-western flanks descend into Račková Valley, and the eastern side falls towards Bystrá Valley. Just below the summit to the east lies a small mountain tarn called Anitino očko, whose waters drain via the Bystrá stream into the Belá river. The terrain is a mix of alpine meadows and rocky outcrops, giving the peak a rugged, authentic Tatra character. Summer offers the best conditions for the approach, while autumn colours in the valleys below create a stunning backdrop. In winter and early spring, snow and ice make the ridge significantly more demanding.

The panoramic view from the top is exceptional — you can see peaks across both the Western and High Tatras, the surrounding valleys, and the Podtatranská Basin. In good visibility, distant ranges such as the Slovak Paradise, Low Tatras, Veľká Fatra and parts of the Orava Beskids come into view.

The little tarn Anitino očko nestled just below the eastern side of the summit is a charming detail — a quiet spot that most visitors to the Tatras will never know exists.
