Jakubina, at 2194 m above sea level, is the second highest peak in the Western Tatras — a grassy, rock-strewn summit that rewards every hiker with sweeping views and a genuine sense of wilderness. Chamois roam freely across the slopes here, making the ascent feel like stepping into a nature documentary.

The summit sits at the divide between Račkova Valley and Jamnická Valley, with steep northern and eastern faces that give the mountain a bold, alpine silhouette. From the top you can see Baranec (2184 m) to the west and the highest peak of the Western Tatras, Bystrá (2248 m), to the east. On clear days the High Tatras stretch across the horizon, with the distinctive profile of Kriváň standing out. The terrain shifts beautifully as you climb — forest gives way to dwarf pine, then open mountain meadows, with rocky ridgelines near the top.

• Campsite in Račkova Valley — blue trail through Úzka Valley past a retention reservoir, then yellow trail with switchbacks through forest and dwarf pine up to alpine meadows and the summit; difficulty: moderate.

• A green trail continues from the summit to the border peak Hrubý vrch (2137 m), from where you can descend into Jamnická Valley or loop back to Račkova Valley and the campsite — a great circular option.
• Chamois are regularly spotted grazing near the summit — keep a respectful distance.

As the second highest point of the Western Tatras, Jakubina offers one of the finest viewpoints in the entire range — and without the crowds you might expect for such a reward.
