Bystra (2,248 m a.s.l.) is the highest peak of the Western Tatras on the Slovak side — a genuine high-mountain summit that rewards hikers with a sweeping 360-degree panorama and a blissful lack of crowds. If you want the Tatras experience without the queues, this is your mountain.

The summit has a mixed character — grassy alpine meadows give way to rocky terrain just below the top. In summer, the view stretches across the Western and High Tatras, deep glacial valleys on both the Slovak and Polish sides, and on clear days even the Low Tatras, Veľká Fatra and the Orava Beskids come into view. Autumn brings dramatic light and empty trails, while winter turns this into serious mountaineering territory requiring full equipment and experience.

• The peak lies within Tatra National Park (TANAP) — park rules apply, including staying on marked trails.
• An unmarked path connects the nearby summit of Blyšť with Bystra — useful to know if planning a ridge traverse.
• Two glacial lakes — Bystré plesá — and the smaller Anitino očko lie at the southern foot of the peak and are worth including in your route.

Bystra sits at the junction of two ridge arms — one heading southwest toward Nižná Bystrá and one southeast toward Kotlová — making it a natural hub for longer ridge walks in the Western Tatras.
