Hochblanken rises to 2068 m above sea level on the border between the municipalities of Mellau and Damüls, part of the Damülser Berge in Vorarlberg's Bregenzerwald mountain range. It's a rewarding summit for hikers who want sweeping alpine views without a demanding technical climb.

The peak forms part of a roughly ten-kilometre-long mountain ridge that stretches from Sünser Spitze in the west, over Ragazer Blanken, Hochblanken itself, Hohes Licht, Damülser Mittagsspitze, Wannenkopf and Gungern, all the way to Klippern in the east. The ridge has a distinctive tilted-slab shape, sloping gently southward toward Damüls, while its northern side drops away in steep, bare rock bands. This contrast makes for striking views in every season — golden meadows in summer, fiery colours in autumn, and a stark, snowy drama in winter that highlights the jagged northern cliffs.

How to reach the summit

• Ugaalpe (approx. 1825 m), easily reached by the UGA Express cable car — easy trail, approx. 1 hour 15 minutes, ascent of about 245 m, difficulty: easy
• The path leads across the western flank of Damülser Mittagsspitze and over the Hohes Licht summit

Practical information

• Hochblanken is part of the Damülser Rundtour, a circular route that also passes Ragazer Blanken and Sünser Joch
• From here, side trails branch off to Sünser Spitze, Lake Sünser See, or Portlahorn

Thanks to the nearby cable car and modest elevation gain, Hochblanken makes an excellent choice for families and less experienced hikers who still want to enjoy genuine alpine scenery.
