Perched on the southernmost hill of the Visegrád Mountains, this stone mountain hut has welcomed hikers near Szentendre for nearly a century. Built entirely through volunteer effort and named after the founder of the local hiking association, it carries a genuine sense of history and community spirit.

The surroundings offer the gentle, wooded charm typical of the Visegrád Mountains - rolling hills, quiet forest paths and a peaceful atmosphere in every season. In summer the hut buzzes with campers pitching tents nearby, while autumn and winter bring a calm, almost secluded feel perfect for those seeking a break from the crowds. The stone building with its upper floor and dormitory-style rooms still evokes the spirit of old-school Hungarian tourist huts.

How to get to the hut

• From Szentendre - hiking trail only, no paved road access

• 24 beds across 4 rooms with bunk beds (4 and 8-person rooms)
• Tent spots available in summer with access to washroom facilities
• Hot and cold buffet food available even for day visitors (closed Mondays and Tuesdays, advance booking possible)

At the hut's opening in 1933, a memorial plaque was unveiled commemorating poet Sándor Petőfi's 1845 visit to Kő-hegy - a small but charming piece of literary history tucked into the Hungarian hills.
