The concrete transmitter tower atop Klínovec is one of the most recognisable landmarks of the Ore Mountains, standing proudly on the highest peak of the range at 1,243 m above sea level. While the tower itself is a working broadcast facility and not open to visitors, the surrounding area offers some of the finest panoramic views in the region.

Klínovec is the tallest summit in the Ore Mountains, and the open highland terrain around the tower gives sweeping views across the Czech side of the range toward Karlovy Vary and Sokolov. In summer the area is popular with hikers and mountain bikers, while in winter it transforms into a busy ski resort with numerous downhill runs. The wind up here can be sharp, so a warm jacket is worth packing even in summer.

It is worth knowing that local radio enthusiasts of the Svazarm organisation erected the first television transmitter here in 1957, and in August 1968 the tower was the scene of a dramatic incident when Soviet troops shelled the transformer station at its base.
