Klínovec is the highest peak of the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory) at 1244 metres, crowned by the highest-situated lookout tower in the entire range. It's a destination that rewards you with sweeping panoramic views and a genuine sense of standing above everything around.

The surrounding landscape is classic Ore Mountains scenery - rolling, forested ridges - but the summit itself rises well above the treeline, opening up truly expansive views in every direction. Wind here is nearly constant, which is exactly why the tower's upper platform was glassed in back in the 19th century. In winter, Klínovec transforms into a busy ski resort, with the tower poking above the snowy slopes as a landmark visible from afar.

How to get to the viewpoint

• Boží Dar - about 4 km away, marked trail, moderate difficulty
• Jáchymov - the historic starting point, once reached by horse-drawn carriages carrying spa guests from Karlovy Vary

Practical information

• The tower is open daily from 9am to 5pm, weather permitting
• From the platform you can see Fichtelberg, the Ore Mountains, Děčínský Sněžník, the České středohoří, the Doupovské hory, the Tepelská vrchovina, and the Slavkovský les
• The site includes a historic mountain hotel with the tower, protected as a cultural monument

The current tower, carefully rebuilt using the original stones in 2013, is actually the third structure on this spot - the first burned down, and the second, opened in 1884, was known as the Kaiser-Franz-Josephs-Turm.
