The Sunny Lakes near Senec are Slovakia's favourite summer escape — a sprawling 100-hectare water playground just a short drive from Bratislava. With sparkling clear water, sandy beaches, an aquapark, and a lively resort atmosphere, this place has been drawing visitors since it first opened as a bathing spot back in 1919.

The complex is divided into two zones, 'North' and 'South', each with its own vibe. In summer the shores buzz with activity — sunbathers, kayakers, beach volleyball players and families on pedalos. Outside the peak season, the lake transforms into a quiet retreat, perfect for a gentle walk along the shore or a relaxed fishing session. The water reaches depths of up to 12 metres and stays impressively clear for an artificial lake.

Here is a fun piece of history: the lakes were created in 1845 when gravel was dredged here to build the Bratislava–Galanta railway line.
