Veľká homoľa (709 m a.s.l.) is one of the most rewarding summits in the Small Carpathians, rising above the charming wine town of Modra in western Slovakia. The dense forest that covers the hill hides a wonderful surprise at the top — a 20-metre observation tower offering one of the finest panoramas in the region.

The peak sits on a lateral ridge that connects to the main Small Carpathians range at a junction called Tri kopce. The whole area is threaded with a dense network of marked hiking trails, making it easy to explore at your own pace. In summer the forest provides welcome shade, while autumn transforms the hillsides into a spectacular blaze of colour. From the observation tower, on a clear day, you can see countless peaks of the Small Carpathians, the Danubian Lowland, and — when conditions are right — the White Carpathians, Strážovské vrchy, Považský Inovec, and even the foothills of the Alps to the southwest. The peak falls within the Small Carpathians Protected Landscape Area.

• A 20-metre observation tower stands at the summit — free to climb, built in 2018 to replace the original tower from 2001

Veľká homoľa already had its first observation tower back in 2001 — the current taller structure, erected in 2018, gives visitors an even better vantage point above the treetops and has become a favourite destination for families and hikers from nearby Bratislava.
