Moor am Pfahlberg is a small yet remarkable nature reserve in the Ore Mountains, where a mountain peat bog creates an atmosphere quite different from the surrounding forests. It's a great spot for anyone looking for peace and a genuine encounter with the raw nature of the Saxon-Czech borderland.

The reserve's landscape is a mosaic of wet meadows, peatlands and spruce groves stretching at the foot of the 996-metre Pfahlberg. In summer, the area is covered with rich bog vegetation, while in autumn the damp air and mist give it a mysterious, wild character. In winter, the surroundings turn into a quiet, snowy landscape popular with cross-country skiers exploring the area around nearby Oberwiesenthal.

How to get there

• Tellerhäuser (part of the Breitenbrunn/Erzgeb. municipality) — route heading northeast, walking time depends on the chosen path, difficulty: easy to moderate
• Oberwiesenthal — approach from the southeast, an alternative starting point for the hike
