Kyseľ is one of the most dramatic limestone gorges in Slovak Paradise — a deep, shadowy canyon carved by rushing water, lined with vertical rock walls and traversed by metal walkways suspended above the void. If you are after a genuine adventure in the Slovak highlands, this place delivers.

The gorge cuts through the Glac plateau southwest of Kláštorisko, with the Kyseľ stream flowing down to join the Biely potok. In its upper section the canyon splits into two branches — Malý Kyseľ and Veľký Kyseľ — both open to visitors. The main Kyseľ gorge is accessible in its upper part, where a metal catwalk offers a breathtaking top-down view of three waterfalls: Barikadový, Kaplnkový and Obrovský vodopad. The trail then continues along the right bank of the stream — sometimes literally through the streambed — passing the vodopád Karolínyho on the way. The atmosphere is something else entirely: wet limestone, the constant roar of water and deep shade make every step feel like an expedition.

• Kláštorisko (starting point) — yellow trail branching off the blue Kláštorisko–Suchá Belá route; one-way trail; difficulty: demanding (via ferrata section, safety equipment required)

• Since 2016 the lower part of the gorge is accessible as a via ferrata — you must bring your own safety/ferrata equipment.
• Entry fee applies.
• Seasonal access only: 15 June to 30 October.
• The entire area is a strictly protected nature reserve (Kyseľ Nature Reserve, established 1976).

The first complete traverse of the gorge was made on 27 August 1907 by Kazimierz Kozlovski and companions — and after a forest fire closed the lower section in 1976, it took a full forty years before visitors could walk it again, reopened in 2016 as a via ferrata route.
