Átjárós Cave is a small pass-through cave hidden in the rocky ridges of Oszoly in the Pilis Mountains, one of the many minor karst curiosities scattered across this Hungarian range. Its name literally means 'passage cave', reflecting its two entrances that allow visitors to walk straight through the rock formation.

The surrounding Oszoly area is a rugged, forested terrain of limestone crags and small crevices, well known among rock climbers and hikers seeking quieter corners of the Pilis. The cave itself formed in Upper Triassic Dachstein limestone through frost weathering and dissolution, resulting in a single, formation-free chamber roughly 6 metres long. The forested slopes and rocky ribs around it offer a peaceful atmosphere in every season, with particularly clear views once the leaves fall in autumn.

How to get there

• From Csobánka, heading north from the Óra-fal (Clock Wall) — steep hillside approach of about 100-150 metres, moderate difficulty
• The route passes the entrance of Háromszög Cave; from there, circle around the rocky rib to reach the north-facing entrance of Átjárós Cave

Practical information

• No special caving equipment is needed to visit
• The cave has no formations — it is a simple, walk-through niche

Interestingly, although the rocky nooks of Oszoly were already noted by hikers in the 1960s, this particular cave remained unmapped until 1997, when speleologists finally surveyed and documented it.
