Am Taufichtig is a small, peaceful nature reserve tucked into the Ore Mountains, close to the Czech-German border. It's a great pick for travelers who want to escape the crowds and enjoy quiet upland forest scenery.

The reserve has a distinctly mountainous character, covered mostly in dense spruce forest typical of the higher Ore Mountains. In summer it offers cool, green tranquility broken only by birdsong, while in winter the area often lies under a blanket of snow, making it a scenic spot for a winter walk. Nearby rises the 1002-metre Taufichtig peak, and the surrounding hills and wetlands add to the mix of habitats typical of this highland region.

How to get there

• Tellerhäuser (part of the municipality of Breitenbrunn/Erzgeb.) — forest trail, moderate walking time, easy to moderate difficulty
• Alternatively approach from Oberwiesenthal, located southeast of the reserve

• Neighboring protected areas include the Zweibach reserve to the west and the Moor am Pfahlberg reserve to the southeast
