Pezinok Castle is a hidden gem at the foot of the Small Carpathians — a beautifully restored Renaissance residence with medieval roots that stretch back to before 1271. What makes it truly special is that it's one of the last surviving examples of a water castle in Slovakia, once surrounded by two water-filled moats fed by a local stream.

Set within a romantic English-style park with rare trees and a scenic lake, the castle sits at the south-eastern edge of the Small Carpathians in the town of Pezinok (152 m a.s.l.). The atmosphere shifts with the seasons: lush and green in summer, golden and atmospheric in autumn when the surrounding vineyards come alive with harvest time. It's a wonderful destination that combines history, nature and the pleasures of Slovak wine culture all in one place.

• Pezinok town centre — the castle is located in Castle Park, just a few minutes' walk from the centre; easily reachable by bus or car from Bratislava (approx. 25 km).

• The castle cellars house the prestigious Zámocké vinárstvo winery with historic barrels — wine tastings are available.
• The restored Pálffy Apartments feature a grand historic hall decorated with frescoes by local painters, the Bárta family.
• The Palace Art Hotel with a restaurant and wellness centre occupies the site of the former burnt-down wing.
• A Glass Gallery with valuable artistic glasswork pieces is open to visitors.

Look out for the 16th-century stone plaque with a coat of arms and Latin inscription left by former owner Ivan Krušić on the inner courtyard wall — a fascinating piece of living history still in its original place.
