Perštejn is a striking medieval castle ruin perched on a steep rocky spur above the village of the same name, just three kilometers from the town of Klášterec nad Ohří. The extensive surviving walls hint at the fortress this once was, making it a rewarding stop for anyone who loves history mixed with a good hike.

The setting is rugged and atmospheric - a forested rocky ridge with steep drops on several sides, offering fine views over the Ohře river valley. In autumn and spring, when the foliage thins out, the ruins stand out dramatically against the surrounding hills. Summer brings cool shade among the old stones, while winter frost can turn the site into a moody, almost otherworldly scene.

• Perštejn village - short steep climb up the rocky spur, about 20-30 minutes, moderately demanding
• Klášterec nad Ohří - longer approach across the surrounding hills, suited to more experienced hikers

• Protected as a cultural monument since 1963
• Extensive wall remains, a bastion, and remnants of the tower (bergfrit) are preserved
• About 450 meters north lie the remains of a 15th-century siege camp

Interesting fact: the castle fell in 1451 during a famous siege by forces loyal to King George of Poděbrady - traces of the besiegers' camp, including ramparts and ditches, can still be seen in the terrain today.
