This stretch of the famous German Unity Trail is a real treat for anyone who loves the Ore Mountains and a peaceful, forested walk away from the crowds. The route connects the charming town of Seiffen, known for its traditional wooden toy craftsmanship, with Fichtelberg (1215 m) - the highest peak of eastern Germany.
The hike leads through the scenic hills and forests of the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains), passing small villages, viewpoints and areas steeped in the region's mining history. The trail relies on existing marked regional paths, so it's worth carrying a map or guidebook describing the exact route. The landscape shifts from quiet valleys to open mountain terrain near Fichtelberg, where a wide panorama over the entire Ore Mountains range opens up.
Difficulty and terrainThis is a section of a much longer trail spanning over 1,080 km from Görlitz to Aachen - a symbol of German reunification once walked by the team behind the popular children's show Sendung mit der Maus in 2009.
