Lilienstein is one of the most iconic table mountains of Saxon Switzerland, and its flat summit hides the ruins of a medieval castle. This is a place where history meets breathtaking views over the Elbe valley, making the climb well worth the effort.

Rising to 415 metres, the mountain stands out thanks to its distinctive flat-topped shape, visible from a great distance. The wooded summit plateau is a pleasant place to wander in any season - green and lush in spring and summer, colourful in autumn, and quietly snow-covered in winter. From the edge of the plateau, sweeping views open up towards Königstein fortress and the winding Elbe river, making this one of the region's favourite viewpoints.

• Waltersdorf - marked trail, approx. 1-1.5 hours, moderate difficulty
• An ascent from Ebenheit, a small settlement at the foot of the mountain, is also possible

• A mountain restaurant (Bergrestaurant) stands at the summit
• Visible remains of castle walls near the southern ascent and beam recesses near the northern ascent

Excavations in 1894 uncovered spearheads, arrowheads, pottery shards and bones on the summit - hard to imagine today as you stroll peacefully among the trees.
