Auersberg is one of the highest peaks of the Western Ore Mountains, and its distinctive silhouette, topped by a huge radar dome, is visible from far away. This is a place where landscape meets technology - the summit hosts an air traffic surveillance station (PSR/MSSR), one of just six such installations in Germany, and it offers wide panoramic views over the surrounding hills and forests of the Ore Mountains.

The area around Auersberg is a classic mid-mountain landscape - rolling ridges covered with spruce forest, meadows, and views stretching into the Czech side of the range. In summer it makes for a peaceful walk through greenery, in autumn the hills glow with colourful foliage, and in winter the surroundings turn into a quiet paradise for cross-country skiing and long snowy walks. The summit itself, due to the radar installation, has a slightly industrial character, creating an interesting contrast with the wild nature all around.

How to reach the viewpoint

• Starting from nearby villages at the foot of the Western Ore Mountains - via marked hiking trails leading to the summit, moderate difficulty, suitable for an averagely fit hiker
• An ascent is also possible from the Czech side, along paths running along the mountain ridge

Practical information

• The summit is occupied by the radar installation, so direct access to the tower itself is restricted - the viewpoint lies in its immediate surroundings
• Best views come with good visibility, especially early morning or before sunset
