Szklarska Pass (886 m a.s.l.) is one of the most remarkable mountain crossings in the Sudetes — the point where the Karkonosze (Giant Mountains) meet the Izera Mountains, and where Poland meets the Czech Republic. Whether you arrive by train, car or on foot, this place immediately feels like a true mountain hub full of possibilities.

The pass has an open, welcoming character surrounded by spruce forests with views over the rolling ridgelines of both ranges. In winter it transforms into a cross-country skiing paradise — the famous Jakuszyce trails spread out from here, and snow cover lasts exceptionally long thanks to the elevation. In summer and autumn it serves as a perfect base for hikes heading in all directions. The atmosphere is pleasantly cross-border: the Czech town of Harrachov is just a few kilometres away, and you can walk there without even noticing you have crossed a frontier.

• From Szklarska Poręba (Polish side) — national road DK3 / E65, approx. 8 km south of town centre; also reachable by train to Szklarska Poręba Jakuszyce station, located directly on the pass.
• From the Czech side — from Harrachov via road I/10, a short drive or walk uphill; the pass is a junction of marked hiking trails connecting both countries.

• Szklarska Poręba Jakuszyce railway station is the highest railway station in Poland — sitting roughly 80 m higher than the station in Zakopane.
• Active railway line no. 311 (Wrocław – Jelenia Góra – Prague) passes through the pass, making it easy to visit without a car.
• The pass is a junction of several marked hiking trails leading into both the Karkonosze and Izera Mountains.
• The Jakuszyce Nordic skiing centre is nearby — exceptional snow conditions in winter.

A small piece of history: until 2007 there was a formal border crossing here between Jakuszyce and Harrachov — today, thanks to the Schengen Agreement, you cross between Poland and the Czech Republic without even slowing down.
