Mrtvý vrch (1,062 m a.s.l.) holds a quiet distinction: it is the northernmost 'thousander' in the Czech part of the Krkonoše (Giant Mountains). Tucked just 3 km north of Harrachov and 1 km east of the Novosvětské sedlo pass — where Krkonoše meets the Jizera Mountains — this forested summit rewards curious hikers with solitude and a genuine sense of wilderness.

The peak is covered by young spruce forest interspersed with clearings that frame partial views, especially towards the Jizera Mountains to the west. The atmosphere is calm and untouched in every season — lush and green in summer, and deeply silent under winter snow. The highest point itself is not clearly marked, which makes reaching its vicinity feel like a small personal discovery.

• Novosvětské sedlo pass — marked cycling route runs approx. 300 m southeast of the summit along the edge of the quiet zone, approx. 3 km from the pass, easy to moderate
• A blue-marked hiking trail passes approx. 500 m from the summit on its northern and eastern side, skirting through the quiet zone

• There is no marked trail to the summit itself — access to the top is restricted as it lies within the quiet zone of Krkonoše National Park (KRNAP).
• The summit marker is indistinct — the highest point is not clearly identifiable on the ground.
• The chalet Alfrédka is located in the marshy saddle between Mrtvý vrch and the neighbouring Žlabský vrch.

Historically known in German as 'Weiberberg', this modest peak carries both a curious name and a quiet record — the northernmost thousand-metre summit on the Czech side of the Giant Mountains.
