Batizovská priehyba is a dramatic mountain pass tucked between Gerlachovský štít — the highest peak in the Carpathians — and Gerlachovská veža in the High Tatras. It's a raw, wild place with a sense of real Alpine adventure, and one that likely witnessed the very first ascents of the region's most iconic summit.

The pass drops steeply into Batizovská dolina below, channelled by the rugged Batizovský žľab gully. The terrain here is serious — fixed artificial aids are in place along the gully, a section known locally as 'Batizovská próba' (the Batizov Test). In summer the rocky ridges glow in clear mountain light and the views down into the valley are breathtaking. In autumn low cloud drifts through the crags, adding a moody, mysterious atmosphere. In winter this becomes a true mountaineering objective. Whatever the season, this is not a gentle stroll — it's an encounter with the Tatras at their most uncompromising.

• The pass is accessible to tourists only with a licensed mountain guide — independent access is not permitted. The route ascends through Batizovská dolina and continues up the Batizovský žľab gully, which is equipped with fixed aids. Difficulty: demanding.
