Tucked away at the foot of the Little Carpathians on the edge of the Záhorie lowlands, the Kuchyňa Reservoir is a peaceful artificial lake that feels anything but artificial. Surrounded by oak-beech forest, with shallow reed-lined shores and the gentle sound of two streams merging, it is a perfect escape for anyone seeking nature without the crowds.

Sitting at around 262 metres above sea level, the lake covers more than 10 hectares and reaches an average depth of 4.8 metres. A 10-metre-high dam wall divides the valley at the meeting point of the Modranska and Švancpošska valleys. The shores are gently sloping and easy to walk along, making this a great spot in every season — lush and green in spring and summer, richly coloured in autumn. Swimming is possible directly in the reservoir, and the calm atmosphere makes it a favourite with families and anglers alike.

• Village of Kuchyňa (parking near the reservoir) — flat walking path along the Malina valley, easy difficulty, suitable for all ages.

• The reservoir lies within the Malé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area (CHKO) — nature protection rules apply.
• The Javorinka stream is a designated trout fishing zone — a valid fishing permit is required.
• A small refreshment stand is located near the Javorinka stream.
• A natural drinking water spring in the Malina valley supplies the village of Kuchyňa.

Look out for the remains of the 'Beaver Dam' — a once-popular educational trail that ran on a walkway right over the water's surface. It is a little weathered now, but it still adds a charming story to this lovely corner of Slovakia.
