Slovačka jama is one of Croatia's deepest known caves, hidden in the rugged heart of Velebit at 1520 m above sea level. This is a place for serious caving enthusiasts and anyone drawn to the wild, untouched side of Sjeverni Velebit National Park.
The surrounding area of Mali kuk and the Rožanski kukovi is a landscape of jagged limestone peaks, dwarf pine, and alpine meadows. Summer brings accessible but demanding terrain — rocky paths, little shade, and the unpredictable weather typical of Velebit's high mountain zones. In winter, the area becomes largely inaccessible due to snow and alpine conditions. The cave entrance itself drops down over 1300 meters, making it one of the deepest known caves in Croatia.

Practical information
The cave was discovered in 1995 by Slovak speleologists Branislav Šmída and Marcel Griflík, who reached a depth of 516 m during a nine-day expedition — later exploration pushed the known depth to 1320 meters.
