Zečjak (1622 m) is the second-highest peak of Central Velebit, right after Šatorina, but far easier to reach. It rises close to the Veliki Alan pass and the Planinarski dom mountain hut, making it an achievable goal without a full day's expedition.
The summit is completely treeless, much like nearby Šatorina, offering a wide-open view over the Adriatic Sea and its islands. This is Velebit at its rawest - sun-baked limestone ridges in summer, sea mist drifting in during spring and autumn, and snow with strong winds in winter, so timing your visit well makes a real difference.
How to reach the summit
Good to know
The bare, treeless summit gives Zečjak one of the most open panoramas in the area, making it a favorite for hikers chasing sea views over the Adriatic islands.
