Visočica (1,615 m) is one of the most striking peaks of the Velebit range, rising above the steep Lika-side slope of the mountain. It's counted among the key summits of Southern Velebit and is famous for one of the finest viewpoints in the entire massif.

The terrain here combines rugged rocky ridges with open highland pastures, and the panorama stretching over Ličko polje is truly memorable. The area is also known for its remarkable botanical richness - around 500 different plant species have been recorded here, making it a fascinating destination for nature lovers. In summer the peak draws hikers looking for solitude and sweeping views, while winter conditions can turn the ascent into a more demanding undertaking.

How to reach the summit

• The nearest town on the Lika side is Gospić, home to a local mountaineering society sharing the peak's name - a good starting point for planning your hike.

Practical information

• Below the summit, at the edge of the forest belt, lie the ruins of Gojtanov dom, a mountain hut burned down in 1991 during the Croatian War of Independence.
• Right next to the ruins stands a neglected mountain shelter that can only serve as emergency protection from severe storms.

Gojtanov dom was once a favorite gathering spot for hikers, and today its ruins stand as a quiet reminder of the region's turbulent history.
