Tuhobić is an elongated mountain ridge with steep sides, stretching along the coastal edge of the Gorski Kotar plateau, from Gornje Jelenje to Fužine, about 5 km long. What makes this mountain truly unique is the remarkably sharp boundary between the mountain forest vegetation and the coastal karst landscape - nowhere else is this transition so vivid and striking.
At the summit stands a ruined geodetic pillar. The southern slope is covered in grass, while the northern slope is forested. Three distinct zones can be identified here: the gentle upper ridge covered with lush meadows reaching all the way to the top, a gentle descent toward the coast, and a steep drop toward the Lepenica valley. In spring, Tuhobić turns into a fragrant carpet of flowers, offering hikers a restful, gentle landscape after exploring the surrounding rugged peaks. From the grassy summit ridge, beautiful views open toward the Rijeka Bay, Učka, Snježnik, Risnjak and Medviđak, with the scout home Lepenica, the Lepenica and Bajer lakes, and the Rijeka motorway on both sides of the tunnel visible below. From the ridge section, views extend to Kvarner, Učka and Ćićarija, as well as the Grobnik Alps and Risnjak National Park, while the eastern side reveals Bitoraj, Viševica, Zagradski vrh and Bjelolasica.
How to reach the summit
What makes Tuhobić special is the dramatic contrast of landscapes visible from a single ridge - a real open-air lesson in geography.
