Niżni Zbójnicki Staw is the lowest and easternmost of the Zbójnicki Tarns — a quietly spectacular alpine lake tucked into the south-western part of Zbójnicka Polana in the Great Cold Valley of the High Tatras. Sitting at 1,955 m above sea level, it rewards visitors with a sense of wild, untouched mountain solitude.
The tarn is embraced by the rugged scenery of the High Tatras, where rocky peaks and open highland meadows create a dramatic backdrop. In summer the calm water mirrors the surrounding ridges, while autumn brings warm golden hues to the landscape. Winter turns the whole area into a silent, snow-covered wilderness best left to experienced hikers. A small stream flows into the tarn from the Middle Zbójnicki Tarn above, adding a gentle soundtrack to the atmosphere.
How to get thereThe name 'Zbójnicki' ('outlaw' or 'poacher') refers to the poaching history of the Great Cold Valley, hinting at the secretive past of this hidden corner of the Tatras. The Zbójnicki Tarns are sometimes confused with the neighbouring Siostrzańskie Tarns or grouped together with them.
